HALLOWEEN NIGHT JUMPS?
Posted October 19, 2004
Skydive New Mexico is considering hosting night jumps on the Friday before Halloween, 29 Oct 04. The full moon should be on Thursday the 28th. We must have 10-12 people willing to do at least one jump each in order to make it worth putting this on. There must be at least two night loads but we would like to do more than that. Official sunset is around 18:20; it doesn’t count as a night jump unless it is one hour past sunset. We are considering doing a couple of late afternoon and true sunset loads before the night jumps. Vicky expressed interest in making us dinner and having a little party in the Café. If you would like to participate, please let Mac know or, sign up on this sheet.

Oohh, scary fun! Come Jump in your Halloween costume! Contact us NOW if you wish to participate!

NEW GALLERY!
Posted October 19, 2004
Skydive New Mexico has now set up a weekly pictorial gallery of the events and activities that happen at the drop zone. Starting with October 16-17, 2004, Allen Welch has submitted photos (with captions) of the various things, activities and anecdotes he captured on film throughout that weekend. Anyone is more than welcome to submit photos to the webmaster for any weekend they are there and take pics. More weekends shall be posted as they are recorded.

SKYDIVE NEW MEXICO JUMPERS RECEIVE AWARDS, ACCOLADES!
Posted October 19, 2004
Lately, many of our skydivers have reached some pretty heady milestones, as well as received top honors throughout the sport.

First off, a few of our jumpers received their Gold Wings and 12 hour Freefall badges! Dr. Lee was on hand recently at the drop zone to award 5 members of Skydive New Mexico with their Gold Wings pins and certificates, officially inducting them into this elite skydiver club. A huge congrats goes out to all of them!

Adam Buckner
CJ Hartwigsen
Danny Combest
Richard Greenwood
Ken Mascarenas

CJ Goes to US Nationals
Another great honor was recently bestowed onto CJ Hartwigsen as well. He was chosen to the US Team for the 2nd World Cup of Canopy Flying! The World Cup will be held this year in Lake Wales, Florida on February 7 - 12, 2005 (it was rescheduled due to the recent damage caused by the hurricanes that hit Florida this summer). CJ has been selected to be part of the Intermediate Class team, and will be out there representing both the US and Skydive New Mexico. We wish him the best of luck at the competition (then again, if you've seen him fly his canopy, he may not need much luck . . .). Here's a couple of pics of CJ in the air, practicing with his canopy. For more info on the 2nd World Cup, the US Team, or any related info, go to www.canopypiloting.com.

WATER BOOGIE 2004 TO BE HELD AT ELEPHANT BUTTE!
Posted August 30, 2004
After lots of research and discussion this weekend, it has been decided that this year's Water Boogie 2004 will be held at Elephant Butte! Special thanks go out the Mark McLaughlin and Carey Olsen who both drove down to Elephant Butte to research location, facilities and services down at the Butte. Here's the new, pertinent info:

DATE: September 11 - 12, 2004 (same dates as before)
LOCATION: Elephant Butte, NM (off I-25, exit 85 - detailed directions/camp site location to follow)
BOOGIE FEE: TBD
TEE SHIRTS: There are still some shirts available to order, but the overall design will not change from the original design that many of you have pre-ordered and paid for. Shirts should be available at the DZ this weekend (Labor Day weekend) for pick-up/purchase.

Some of the details that allowed for this decision included:

Camp site preliminary chosen for us to operate out of is set up just like our usual site at Lake Conchas (trees and picnic table shelter for shade)
Airport has gas for plane there - no need to bring our own (not to mention cheaper)
Slightly closer than Conchas from Albuquerque
Bathroom/shower facilities, hotels/food close by
Water levels high enough to allow for water jumps
Park ranger/airport manager/Hot Air Balloon Regatta organizer expressed excitement about our presence that weekend.

As an added bonus, there is an annual Hot Air Balloon Regatta taking place at Elephant Butte that same weekend. They are thrilled that we are going to be sharing the sky with them, and several of the balloon pilots have expressed willingness to take jumpers up on Sunday morning. The Regatta has also invited us to join them on Saturday night, when they will hold their BBQ and balloon glow. The regatta is co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Budweiser. They are estimating about 20-30 balloons will be there.

With all these things, this year's Water Boogie sounds like it'll be another great boogie. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

CHANGES AND UPDATES TO WATER BOOGIE 2004!
Posted August 25, 2004
It has come to our attention that the airport located at Lake Conchas is under major repair, and will be unusable until next year. So, we are unable to hold this year's Annual Water Boogie at Lake Conchas. The Board of Directors is actively looking into alternative locations now so that we can still hold our annual Water Boogie on the same weekend as currently scheduled. Primary investigation as already begun at Elephant Butte, but please check back often for any new developments. Hopefully, we'll be able to hold it on the same weekend as scheduled, Sept. 11-12, but that may need to change as well, depending on what happens with the new location search.

We'll keep you posted!

Also, to give you an idea of the kinds of pics you may be able to purchase after you have completed your tandem and reviewed the pics with your videographer. Also, we have posted several video examples of what your final tandem video could look like, just with you as the star! All of this you can see in the Gallery section, the pictures are on the Tandem page, and the video clips are on the Video page. Enjoy!

GET READY FOR WATER BOOGIE 2004!
Posted July 8, 2004
Yep, it's that time of year again. The weather's hot, the skies are (generally) clear, and it's time to get ready for the annual Skydive New Mexico Water Boogie! As usual, Water Boogie '04 will be held the weekend after Labor Day (September 11-12, 2004) at Lake Conchas. And, in preparation for this annual event, we have water training scheduled!

Water training is schedule for 7/30/04 (Friday) at 6pm at the YMCA pool on Comanche just west of
Tramway. Bring swimwear and don't forget your logbook. For any newly licensed jumpers, and for anyone wanting to jump into water, you have to go through this training before you are able to jump into the lake. Make sure to get this done so you can jump into Lake Conchas this year!

FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND BOOGIE CANCELLED!
Posted May 19, 2004
Unfortunately, for those of you who have expressed interest and willingness to show up and jump at the Fourth of July Boogie, we were unable to generate enough interest in time to secure the Caravan for that weekend. So, the Boogie as it was is off. We will still be open and jumping that weekend, like all other weekends, but we will only be jumping from our Cessna 182.

We would like to thank all of you who expressed interest in such a timely manner, and do realize that this was short notice. Keep checking in at the drop zone and on this site for any new developments, specials and new news for all the latest happenings at Skydive New Mexico. Blue Skies!

2004 CLUB MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE DUE!
Posted May 3, 2004
For those of you who have not been out that the DZ recently, we have started collecting 2004 Club Membership dues. The Board of Directors recently met and announced that dues are due, and that they are raised to $40 for the year. These dues help the Club operate and put on special events, such as the Annual Water Boogie. For those of you who have been out recently and paid your dues, we thank you for your continued support and membership with Skydive New Mexico. For all other members, please be prepared to pay your dues the next time you are out at the DZ.

Also, as a reminder to all members, you need to check with Manifest to see if your medical waiver has expired or not, as well as make sure we have your recent reserve repack date on record. Medical waivers are good for one year, so if it has been longer than that since you last filled one out, you will need to do that when you present your reserve repack card to Manifest. You will not be allowed to manifest until we have a valid waiver and reserve repack date on file for you.

NEXT BOARD MEETING SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 4TH!

For all current Board or Director members, and any other club members that would like to attend, there has been a Board Meeting scheduled for Sunday, April 4th, 2004. It will be held at the hanger that Skydive New Mexico operates out of at the Belen Alexander Airport, and will begin once jumping has stopped for the day. The overall agenda for the meeting is to address some of the marketing and advertising issues brought up during the Membership Meeting on March 20th, as well as discuss possible new Board member nominations, membership dues, operational expenses and other drop zone items. HOW THE WEATHER HAS AFFECTED JUMPING RECENTLY!
Posted February 15, 2004
For all jumpers, as you know, this is the slow season for Skydive New Mexico in regards to students, tandems and such. And we all know why: the weather. However, we would encourage all of you to think twice about coming down before you automatically think "Oh, the weather station called for bad winds and cold weather, I'll just stay home." In all actuality, the weather down in Belen this past few weekends has been better than expected. We've had a lot of sun, not too much industrial haze, and the winds have been nicer on a whole than expected. The morning have been good, especially the past few Saturdays, and have even stayed low all day. Yes, it's still cold, but hasn't been as cold as you'd expect.

So, we'd like to encourage everyone to think about coming out and making a jump during this down time in our instructional season. At least, give a call down to the DZ before you decide not to come down. Ya never know, if might be a 4 jump day for you!

NEXT SAFETY AND TRAINING DAY, MARCH 20TH, 2004!
Posted February 13, 2004
For all jumpers, the next Safety Day 2004 has been scheduled for March 20th, 2004, from 9am to 4 pm. Safety Day will be held out at the hanger of Skydive New Mexico in Belen, NM. All jumpers need to attend this day, and even if you don't plan on jumping that day, please bring your log book to note that you did attend. Ken Mascarenas, our S&TA, shall be conducting the safety day per USPA guidelines. Look forward to seeing everyone there!

GENERAL CLUB MEMBERSHIP MEETING AFTER SAFETY DAY!
Posted February 13, 2004
For all club members, the Board of Directors of Skydive New Mexico would like to have a general membership meeting immediately following the conclusion of Safety Day, March 20th, 2004. Specific topics shall be presented by the Board at that time. Carey Olsen is coordinating the meeting and topics, so should you have any questions, comments, or topics you'd like to have addressed, please contact him. You can reach him at the drop zone on the weekends during normal operating hours. See everyone at the meeting!

JUMP OUT OF A HOT AIR BALLOON THIS WEEKEND, JAN. 24-25!
Posted January 21, 2004
We're doing it again! As we did last year, we've arranged for Skydive New Mexico to have a hot air balloon out at the drop zone for jumpers to skydive out of! Whether you're an experienced skydiver with a lot of balloon jumps, or a newer jumper who has never jumped out of a balloon, this is a must do treat for all of us! As anyone who has jumped a balloon will tell you, it's nothing quite like jumping from a plane, and EVERYONE should experience this unique experience!

We've already got one load scheduled for Saturday morning, Jan. 24th, but if you'd like to try to jump the balloon either Saturday or Sunday morning, please contact our scheduler at skydivenewmexicom@yahoo.com. The cost per balloon jump is $55.00, and we'll be taking off around sunrise, so you'll definitely need to be there early to get on the balloon! Hope to see everyone there!
