Grab Your Towels, it's Water Boogie 2009!  Saturday & Sunday Sept. 12 & 13.
Posted Sept 2, 2009

It's almost Water Boogie time! This year we are returning to Elephant Butte State Park. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so by responding to this email or by using the sign up sheet in the Manifest Office at the DZ.

This year's Boogie will feature water jumps, vintage parachute jumps, sunset canopy formation flights, trans-lake tracking dives, formation load RW jumps, hop and pops, beach swooping, and maybe even a boat jump or two. Alex Little will once again provide a covered packing area so you'll have a shady place to pack between jumps.  Les and Cookie from Aerodyne Research have confirmed that they will be at Water Boogie with free demos of Aerodyne parachutes, including the popular Pilot and Triathlon and the new Sensei. Of course we'll have a giant BBQ and Party on Saturday night where we'll recap the events of the season, give awards, and declare the winners of Tiffany's Totally Insane Water Boogie Raffle. There are some super sweet raffle prizes available this year, including tunnel time at Skyventure Colorado and a certificate for a 50% discount on a Wings container. Tickets are $5 each and are currently available for purchase at Manifest. Our good friends from The Wicker Clan will be at the lake too. Unfortunately they can't offer us balloon jumps in the heat of summer, but it will be good to see them as they skim across the lake at dawn.

Live Water Training with Big John on Friday, Sept. 4
Posted Sept 2, 2009

Water Boogie 09 As always Big John will run a water landing class before the boogie for those that need the training in order to be eligible to make a water jump. This class is also open to any skydiver that wants to review their water landing procedures before jumping into the lake at Water Boogie. Here are the details:
WHAT: Live water training. This training is required for a B license. A B license is required for water jumps.
WHERE: The Horn YMCA, 4901 Indian School Road NE, Albuquerque, NM
WHEN: Friday, September 4, 2009 at 5:30 PM. There are folks scheduled to use the pool before and after us, so we only have a narrow window of opportunity for this training. Do not be late, and be prepared to get in, get it done, and get out!
BRING: Your Logbook, Swim trunks, flippy floppies, and a towel.
CONTACT: YMCA: 265.6971, BIG JOHN: 620.5669

Water Jumps
Every year water jumps are the highlight of Water Boogie. If you think you would like to make a water jump, you need to start planning it now. If you don't own an H2O rig, you'll have to buy, beg, borrow, or rent one. Usually Danny and or Mr. Greenwood can help a club member find a suitable rig. Read Section 6.5 of the SIM for more information on water jumps. Rudi is another great source of knowledge on the subject of water jumps, and he is always happy to share his experience with other jumpers. Water jumps are incredibly fun and safe IF you are prepared!

2009 ELIJAH COMBEST 3-WAY SCRAMBLES RESULTS
Posted Sept 2, 2009

Here are the rankings from last weekend's 2009 Elijah Combest Memorial 3-Way Scrambles. The round by round scores are posted on the chalkboard at the DZ. Congratulations to Ken and The Bourgeoisie! Thanks again to Hank for all the work he put into making sure we all had a great time last weekend!

First Place- 26 points - The Bourgeoisie - Ken Mascarenas, Eric Kieffer, Aaron Latiolas
Second Place - 18 points- Blue Ice - Dave Harper, Amanda Bolton, Bob Pahl
Third Place -  9 points- Fall-A-SHE-O - Kyle Bailey, Chris Wendel, Emily Cano
Fourth Place -  8 points - Inglourious Basterds - CJ Hartwigsen, Michael Hotchkiss, Chris Holmes
Fifth Place - 5 points - Cunning Stunts - Mr. Greenwood, Steven Stoffan, Kyshan Zimawski. David "Hank" Henry substituted for Mr. Greenwood on round 4, only to be brutally taken out by his nemesis, Packer Steve.

The sixth team, Tripp and Fall which was originally composed of Tripp Johnson, Leo Prenevost and Grant Philipson actually placed second in points with 25 points. That's a mere one point behind the all-powerful Bourgeoisie. Unfortunately they were disqualified because they had too many expert flyers on the team for round 4. Fall-A-SHE-O team leader Kyle Bailey had to sub for Tripp's original team member Grant during round 4 because Grant had to leave early. Disqualified or not, Tripp, Leo, and Kyle gave the most impressive performance of the weekend by turning 13 points on their "illegal" round 4 dive.

Respect to the Camera Flyers - Adam Buckner, Alex Little, Matt Chown, Bob Pahl, Eric Kieffer, Shane Migliore, Kyle Bailey

2009 ANNUAL WATER BOOGIE COMMETH!
Posted July 14, 2009

Water Boogie 09The Skydive New Mexico 2009 Water Boogie will be held the weekend after Labor Day, September 12 & 13, at Elephant Butte Lake near Truth or Consequences.

There's a sign up sheet in the Manifest Office at the DZ, or you can respond to this email if you plan to attend. Please sign up soon, as that'll help Lee with his logistical planning.

What is Water Boogie? It's 3 jump planes equipped with friendly and knowledgeable  FAA licensed pilots, hundreds of gallons of Av Gas, an airport, a lake, a camp ground for the outdoor enthusiasts, and hotels and other amenities close at hand for everyone else, altitude, gravity, water jumps, balloon jumps,  regular old skydiving jumps, good friends and family, and one hell of a party.

If you are planning on making a water jump at this year's Water Boogie, you should start making your plans now. Here are some words of advice from our Chief Instructor and S&TA, Ken Mascarenas:  "If you don't own a water rig, it is your responsibility to arrange to borrow one BEFORE THE EVENT from the few individuals who do own them. Rich Greenwood, Rudi Krenz, and John Walter have parachute gear intended for lake use. The gear needs to inspected and packed prior to the Water Boogie.

Jumpers will also need live water training. Don't expect anyone to provide water gear at the lake unless you have made the effort beforehand."

If you are planning on staying in a hotel, you should make reservations ASAP. The Best Western is closest to all the action; here's their number: (505) 894-6665

ELIJAH COMBEST 3-WAY Scrambles 2009
Posted July 3, 2009

Hello jumpers,

The 2009 Skydive New Mexico 2nd Annual Elijah Combest Memorial  3 way Scrambles are on!

What exactly is a 3 way Scramble? Here's how Dave Riner describes it: “Teams of three skydivers try to pull off the most points doing RW formations. The fourth in the plane is a videographer, so points can be scored on the ground after reviewing the jump video.

The scramble part is that the teams do not know what formation(s) they will be attempting in the air until no more than 1 hour prior to their jump."

This event is all about having fun and promoting RW jumping at Skydive New Mexico. Licensed skydivers of all experience levels are welcome to participate!

If you are a newbie, come out and learn from the veterans. If you are an advanced flyer, please come out and share your knowledge and love of RW with the "new guys” .

The dates are August 21, 22 & 23. Friday will be an optional practice day, and the competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday. There will be an awards presentation on Sunday afternoon/evening. We will pick the teams by random draw the weekend before the Scrambles, on Saturday, August 15. Each team will be equally composed of advanced, intermediate, and rookie RW flyers and an outside videographer. And, yes all you air hogs with camera helmets will be allowed to fly on one team and be the videographer on a second team.

Old School RW enthusiasts Dave "Hank" Henry and Kyle Bailey have volunteered to run this event. They will need assistance from a few of the other experienced RW flyers - you know who you are, so please step up. I'm also looking for volunteers to help with logistics like LZ transport and manifest.

EXPERIENCED JUMP PRICE INCREASE
Posted March 24, 2009

The BOD of Skydive New Mexico wanted to let everyone know that as of April 1, 2009, sport parachute jump ticket prices will be increasing. A low jump (5000 feet) will rise to $20 (from $19), and a high jump (up to 10,500 feet) will rise to $25 (form $23). Again, this rise in prices goes into effect April 1, 2009. And no, this isn't an April Fools joke...
